Scaling and Polishing

Happy Smile,
Happy Life.

Scaling and Polishing is a procedure that removes Plaque, Tartar and Stains that are present on the surface of the teeth.

It’s important to remember that professional cleaning is an addition to a good daily oral health routine, and should never replace twice daily brushing with a fluoride toothpaste.

You may also request for a topical fluoride varnish to be applied to the teeth. This will help to keep the enamel strong and resistant to caries.

Built up over time, Plaque, the yellowish substance on our teeth, can harden and change into Tartar (or Calculus). The yellowish stain that forms on our teeth would be difficult to remove once Tartar is formed.

Scaling and Polishing combined with regular brushing, flossing and mouth wash effectively prevents and guards against Gum Disease and Tooth Decay.

Tartar (Calculus) can only be removed via Scaling & Polishing.

Simply brushing your teeth will not yield any results against Tartar. This is why it is recommended to visit your dentist at least twice a year, for the effective prevention against Tooth Decay.

Additionally, gum infection caused by bacterial acids destroy the tooth enamel, the hard layer that is the outer surface of your teeth. Should the tooth enamel be destroyed, problems such as Sensitive Teeth or even Teeth fracture could occur.

An optional topical fluoride treatment is also available for tooth decay prevention. Topical fluorides are applied directly to the tooth enamel.

After treatment, it is advisable not to rinse, eat or drink for at least 30 minutes.
